Catching Up

My word, it's a busy time of year around here! I think everyday that I'm going to come home and blog but by time I actually get here and get things done for the night, I'm way too tired to even think about posting!

Thus-very few posts the last few weeks. I'm going to try and do better though, I promise.

So what's been going on? Well, thank you for asking! Let me fill you in:

Thanksgiving was great. Tanner and I went home to KC on the Wednesday before Turkey day. We had such a good drive. We popped in some of our favorite CD's, cranked the volume and sang our hearts out. It was so fun and made the drive go quickly. It's one of those memories that I'll file away in my head forever....just me and my girl singing along to Sugarland, Taylor Swift and others. Good times.

Thanksgiving day was great. Good food, good times, good company and good memories.

Friday my sister (in-law) and I went on our annual Black Friday shopping spree. We left the house at 6:00 and didn't get back until about 2:00. It was so stinking fun! Mom had gone through the ads and had made a list of things for Jenny and I to get. So not only did we spend our own money, we got to spend Mom's too! Yay!

We had a very successful shopping adventure. The back of the Durango was packed to the brim. Oh my word, we got a lot of stuff! But you know, I've got the majority of my shopping done now and it feels so good! I've even started wrapping gifts already! I love being ahead of the game.

The Saturday after Turkey day, Mom and I went with the ladies from our home church, on our annual trip to Jamesport, Missouri. We had a good time this year, just like we have in the past. This trip gives Mom and I time to hang out just the two of us, so I really look forward to going each year.

Leaving Sunday morning to come back here to Arkansas was really hard on me for some reason. Harder than usual. Not sure what the deal was. I guess it was just such a good visit that I didn't want it to be over? Plus, I knew Steve was working so it wasn't like we were going to come home and be able to see him. I don't know? Weird.

Steve is still working lots of hours. The assignment that he's on was originally for 30 days but has now been extended another 30 days, which means at this point, he will have to work on Christmas. :( Sucks, huh? I know it's his job and I've always known that with his job, comes the possibility of missing the holidays, but still! I'm praying that things change and he's able to either take off for at least a couple of days or that they cancel the assignment all together.

The boss did make Steve take Wednesday and Thursday off this past week, so that was nice! I know he hated not being at work and knowing what was happening, but at the same time, I know he totally enjoyed being home and having a break as well. Tanner-she was WAY excited that he was home! It was cute. He took her to school on Wednesday for me and she wanted to hold his hand the whole way there. (melt my heart!) Thursday Steve checked Tanner out of school 15 minutes early so they could get home and catch the whole episode of Gilmore Girls. I'm telling you, Steve and Tanner have such a special, close relationship and I totally love it.

Tanner is currently on her way to Williamsburg, VA via a charter bus. She left yesterday for her nine day walk through history tour. It was a rough goodbye-bless her heart, but we did it. She was very nervous about going "that far away" from home, but honestly, we basically pushed her on the bus and told her she'd be fine once they got going. And she is.

The teachers take the kids phones away at certain times. At first, I thought "eek!" but now, I'm glad that they do. Not because I don't want to talk to Tanner, but because it forces the kids to talk to each other and I think that's great. In fact, Tanner is sitting by a girl from a different school, which for Tanner, is a big deal. She doesn't like stepping out of her comfort zone (gee, wonder where she gets that!?) and to sit by someone she doesn't know, is a huge thing for her. She says she's having a "blast" and is "very glad she went." Ahh....words that are near and dear to this Mothers heart.

So that's whats been going on here in our household. It's Saturday and both Tanner and Steve are gone, which means I have the house to myself. Yay! I'm going to put some Christmas music on while I clean, bake and do laundry. I'm thinking I'll sneak a nap in sometime too! Tonight I'm meeting some of my girlfriends for dinner and drinks at a Mexican place here in town. All in all it should be a good day.

If you could, please keep Tanner and the rest of the kids traveling, in your prayers. They will arrive in Williamsburg tonight and tomorrow starts their whirlwind tour. It's going to be a crazy busy week for the kids and I just pray that they all stay healthy, happy and safe. They will leave out there next Saturday night and be home next Sunday night. I can't wait!

Enjoy your Saturday!
