Most of those who know us well know that Steve and I love to cook and bake. Ever so slowly Tanner has started becoming interested in being in the kitchen. She took an after school cooking class the past two years while in middle school and she loved it, even though it was only once a week. I decided this summer that I was going to really work with Tanner on how to make differnt foods.
Monday night she made cornbread as part of our dinner. She enjoyed reading the recipe herself yet she didn't hesitate to ask questions if she didn't understand something.
Last night was of course, the spaghetti.
Tonight she made us pancakes and bacon. Again, she did really good. I was impressed because she didn't seem to be scared about the bacon popping on her.
She'll be with her Dad this weekend, but come next week, cooking boot camp is going to start back up. I'd eventually like to get her planning the menu and "cooking" one night a week. I think it'd be a good experience for her and I can remember doing that as a kid myself.
Some of my favorite times are when she and Steve are in the kitchen cooking together. Since our kitchen is so small, the three of us have a hard time fitting comfortably in there at the same time. So there are times where I get "kicked out" and Steve and Tanner cook. It's a hoot to listen to the two of them and they've yet to make something that didn't taste good!
Tanner has said some of the funniest things this week. Just off the wall, funny, very random things. My favorite was today when she said "You know Mom, I got to thinking that I'm one lucky kid. First of all because I've got four parents instead of just two. Second of all, two of my parents work for the Police Department and that means I got connections!" Poor kid doesn't realize that having those connections means Mom really does have eyes on you all the time!
Funny, funny, funny!

Us girls in my family had to choose and fix dinner once a week also! Of course I am reminded, by my sister, that I tried to take the easy way out. I chose frozen pizzas...then I burnt them! I am proud to say that I am much better in the kitchen now. :oD
This will be a great thing for Tanner!
