Steve had to work this morning and Tanner was at her Dad's for the weekend. I got up and showered after I got Steve to work. No big deal. I was getting ready for church, had the radio up loud and had the house to myself. Life was good. Around 8:30 or so, the doorbell rang. I was annoyed and figured it was someone selling something so I didn't answer. I let a few minutes go by then looked out the front door and made sure my truck was still there and all was well with it. I also looked out the back doors and didn't see anything back there. I went back to getting ready and thought nothing more about it.
Probably about five or so minutes later, I was walking into the front room for something and noticed one of my Patrolman's cars pulling up front. My thought at first was "That's weird..if someones going to stop by, they aren't going to stop by at 8:40 on a Sunday morning!" The doorbell rang and when I answered it there stood Officer Travis Beyer with a grin on his face.
Here's how our conversation went:
"Hey Sweetie! I'm here for some breakfast!"
"Well that would be ok any other day than Sunday morning! You know I'm about to go to church."
"Ok really......someone ran through your back fence."
"Oh SHIT............seriously?" (Sorry Mom, but that was my exact response!)

"Yep, unfortunately. Grab some shoes and c'mon......."
Now let me just say-having a husband and two brothers who are all Police Officers and then me working for the PD for the last eleven years......led me to my next question.
"Is he drunk? Does he have valid insurance?" After those questions were answered, then I asked if he was ok. Duh! I guess I should have asked that first!
We walked around to the back of the house and this is what we saw:

Luckily, we have a long backyard. Where the truck went off, was between two honeysuckle vines. He missed the southern most tree by just a few feet. We have some deep ruts that go pretty far into the yard. I really think if he'd come much farther north, he'd have hit the house.
Evidently when he was coming down the hill, he reached for his cigarettes and when he did, he swerved and started to go off into the east side ditch which is very steep. He panicked, gunned the gas and swerved back towards the west. When he did he went straight through our fence. Luckily no one was in the southbound lane of traffic!!
It's all good though-he was fine, just very shook up and very apologetic. I really thought he was going to break down crying right then and there! And I must say-Steve has lived here for about nine years and this is the first time that someone has run through our fence-with the hill that's right here, I really figured it would have happened before now!
I do have to say though-I'm telling you, my husband and I are so together. I called him at work when I got out to the backyard and told him what happened. His exact reaction?
"Oh SHIT!" (Sorry again there, Mom!)
"Oh SHIT!" (Sorry again there, Mom!)
I had to laugh. (We say the same thing like that a lot.)
The guys finished the accident report, the poor guy told me he was sorry another hundred times and then left. I hurried and finished getting ready and went to church. The rest of the day has been fine.
Tanner came home tonight and we've been hanging out ever since. In fact, we are all in our bedroom right now watching the movie "Mall Cop" together. Tanner thought it'd be more fun to watch it in our room, so here we are!
The day may have started out rough, but it certainly ended FABULOUS.

Thank you Jesus!

Holy cow! I knew smoking was bad for your health, but this just proves reaching for your cigs is DEFINITELY a threat to your life! I hope insurance covers it all and it isn't too much of an annoyance for you for too long!
Hey, we need to chat in real life again! Call me sometime! I love to talk with ya! :)
I'm going to find you a t-shirt that has a big target on it for you. You seem to be a target for trouble :)
