"You sure did much better the second time around then you did the first."
This is one of the things that Gpa told me, in regards to my marriage, when we were in KC a month ago. Steve and I had gotten a phone call that we needed to come home because they weren't sure he was going to make it. At the end of the weekend, Steve couldn't go in and tell Gpa bye (Steve may not be a Golden by blood, but by golly, he's sure got the emotions of a Golden!) so I did and he and I had ourselves a little talk. Steve didn't want to know what was said until this past week.
I'm not going to go into details about what Gpa said to me regarding Steve, but I will say that he loved him like he had been in the family for years. Gpa and Steve would sit and talk about the "good 'ole days" or they'd poke fun and tease each other. They had a neat relationship.
I shared this quote with the family over the last few days and we have had so many laughs over it. My Gpa was a hoot, I'm telling you! Here he was, sick as a dog, but yet he told me that I "sure did much better the second time around than I did the first."
CRACK ME UP!
Yet another reason why I loved that man so much.

What a great man. Not only a great man, but a great American. He was the poster child for every American male. His faith in God came first, his family second and his belief in America came third. He was a “China Marine” during World War II and his eyes would light up when he talked about his buddies. I never really asked him about his duties in China, because I knew it was a rough time for many soldiers. He was loved by many and even though I only had the chance to really know him for four years, I hope he is standing there next to “JC” when I leave this earth…rest well Gpa…sp
