Can you believe, my 43 year old husband has NEVER been to a concert?! I was in shock when I found that out a few weeks ago. Shocked, simply because I didn't think there was ANYONE (at least his age!) in this world who hadn't ever gone to a concert and yet then again, not shocked, because, after all, this is Steve that we're talking about and well, Steve doesn't like crowds.
A few weeks ago, Steve mentioned that one of our favorite singers, Todd Agnew was going to be in concert with Pocket Full of Rocks and Meredith Andrews. We didn't know much about Pocket Full of Rocks or Meredith Andrews, but we LOVE LOVE LOVE Todd Agnew. It was a "listener appreciation" concert and tickets were only $5 at the door. Somehow I got Steve to agree to go! (Still not sure how I pulled that off?)
So we both got off work early today and went to Rogers for the concert. We stood outside in the cold and slight rain for 15 minutes to get our tickets, which is yet another thing I never thought my husband would do!
We got inside and at first, took our place on the back row of the bottom section. They weren't great seats, but you could see the stage ok. Mind you, this was at a huge and beautiful Baptist church in Bentonville so it was pew seating as opposed to stadium seating. I wasn't going to say anything though I figured as long as we were there, that was all that matters. Eventually they opened the balcony and after thinking for a few minutes, Steve looked at me and said "Let's go to the balcony." I agreed (and said a quick prayer of thanks to God, because I'll admit, I had been praying that Steve would agree to move to the balcony so we could see better).
We sat on the fourth row of the balcony and had the BEST seats. It was just off center of the stage but yet, we were able to see all the artists faces when they sang. Plus, they had big screens set up and we were able to see those clearly as well. And get this-my husband even stood up through part of the concert when everyone else did! I was so incredibly proud!
It was an INCREDIBLE and MOVING concert. Meredith Andrews opened up and though I had never really heard of her prior to tonight, she ROCKED and I will DEFINITELY be buying her album when it comes out in March. The first song she sang is called "Can Anyone Hear Me" and it's basically crying out to God in a time of need and saying "Hey God are you there!?" It was such a great song. Brought me to tears, I must admit. She sang for 30 minutes and we weren't ready for her to be done when she was.
PocketFullOfRocks sang next. We didn't know it, but they've been around for like 14 years. They've done a lot of song writing and have also done a few songs here and there. Mainly, they were what I'd call a "Praise and Worship" band. And praise and worship we did! It was beyond words, amazing.
And then came ToddAgnew and let me tell you, words can't express what an awesome job he did. He's not your typical "Praise and Worship" leader (which is what he calls himself, a Praise and Worship Leader) He opened up with this song called "Fragile Breath" and it totally set the stage for the remainder of the concert. He sang several of his songs, told stories (he is hysterical and a GREAT story teller), prayed and sang some more. We laughed, we sang and we even shed a few tears.
Let me tell you, we walked out of that church at 10:15 feeling so alive and so good. It was like we had just participated in three hours and fifteen minutes of praise and worship with 1200 other believers. Man, it was great!
And as for Steve-he loved it as well. He thought it was great and was so glad that we went. He even admitted that we did a good thing by moving to the balcony :).
What a perfect way to start off the weekend!

We opened for Big Daddy Weave at that church pre-Ivy. It was a great gig.
It sounds like a great concert! Glad you had a chance to go and enjoy yourself.
