Fire

So we are in Kansas City for a few days hanging out and celebrating my Dad's birthday. Tonight, we grilled hamburgers and hot dogs for dinner. Mike and the girls came down since Jenny had to go play Bunco. We had all just sat down to eat when a timer went off and Dad got up to go out and check on the grill (which was on the deck, right off the kitchen). Dad had the gas on high trying to burn off the gunk on the grates, which is why he set the timer-to remind him to go turn it off. So anyways, he goes out on the deck, then opens the door back into the kitchen oh so causally and says...also oh so casually "The grill is on fire. What do I do?" The way he said it, we all kind of ignored it. He said it again though, again, oh so causally. Mike, Steve and I look out the door and sure enough there are FLAMES coming out the bottom of the grill!! Thankfully Dad's first reaction was to turn off the gas! Mike and Steve get up to go outside, Mom trots to the pantry to get the fire extinguisher and I got up to move Olivia, Emma and Tanner out of the way. Mom gives Mike the fire extinguisher and he kills the flames with one squirt.

Fire out.

All are saved.

Once we all got sat down again, we laughed about it. I mean, Dad was so matter of fact and so casual about it-that's kind of what made it funny!

I'm just glad it wasn't a big deal and that Dad had set the timer to remind him to go check on it!

Good times.
