Since yesterday was Tanner's birthday and she was at her Dad's, we celebrated with her today. She doesn't have to go back to school until tomorrow so I took an extra day off and we hung out. We had SO much fun! We love our girl time!
I had told Tanner we could do whatever she wanted, it was her day. I gave her the option of a movie, shopping, hanging out at home, literally, whatever she wanted.
Originally we were going to go to the movie, but Tanner was too tired to do that and didn't want to sit in a dark theater for fear she'd fall asleep. Good choice because truth be told-I'd probably have fallen asleep myself. She said she thought she would like to go to Rick's Bakery (our favorite bakery in town), get some snacks and then come home and watch Momma Mia and The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants. My type of day right there!
Once I picked her and her friends up though, she changed her mind. We dropped her friends off and headed up to Rogers to go shopping at Justice. That is Tanner's favorite clothing store and since they are so reasonably priced, it's becoming one of my favorite clothing stores (for Tanner's clothes of course) as well. Steve and I got her two little gifts and then told her we'd take her to Justice and let her pick out a couple of things. I'm telling you, we must have spent an hour in that store! It was so fun though-we took our time looking around, trying on things and just hanging out. They play a lot of "teeny bopper" music so truth be told, we did a little singing and dancing as well. (We were the only ones in there for awhile and the clerks were singing too, so we didn't stand out too much!)
T picked a couple of things but the most fun was her six new pairs of panties (they were buy four get two free). The girl is a hoot though and she LOVES getting new panties. (Steve said "they aren't momma panties or anything like that are they?" HECK NO!!) I kid you not, the child took probably fifteen minutes to pick out six pairs of panties-she had to have just the right color and design, not to mention style! It was fun to watch her and hear her thought process throughout the whole thing. Who knew undies were that important, huh?
After Justice it was time for lunch and of course Tanner got to pick where we went. She decided on Chik-Fil-A at first. On the way though, we had to pass by the outdoor mall in Rogers that has an Auntie Anne's Pretzel place. Those pretzels are our absolute favorite. YUM-O! I asked T if she wanted to stop and get a pretzel dog and some cinnamon pretzel sticks instead of Chick-Fil-A. I mean after all, it's a birthday celebration and that means you don't have to eat a balanced lunch! So that's what we did.
Once we got to the Promenade, we realized we were right down from Build A Bear. Tanner wanted to go in there and look for new pajama's for her BAB monkey, Tom. She got the absolute cutest pj's for 'ole Tom! He looks like an old man monkey-it's so stinking cute! (And while there, I got an absolute gem of a deal on an outfit for my niece's BAB. My nieces birthday is the 19th of this month and she'll love it. Gotta love good deals!)
We walked out of BAB and lo and behold, across the street was The Great American Cookie Company-another one of our favorites. I asked Tanner if she wanted to forgo the cinnamon pretzel sticks and get a cookie for desert instead. You'd have thought I offered the kid the moon, she was so excited. We got our cookies, got our pretzel dogs and hit the road and headed home.
We got home, did our chores and settled in to watch Momma Mia. Cute movie and a great way to end our day together. She had a blast and said she had a great birthday all the way around. I'm so thankful I was able to take off and spoil my girl for the day. After all, that's what birthdays are for-spoiling-right?
