Piper Press Article

A lady that lived a few houses down from my Gpa and Gpa is a reporter for the Piper Press, a small community/neighborhood newspaper where my parents live. It's published once a week. Well last week, mom opened the paper and there on the second page was a four column article about my Gpa.

Here's a few snippets I thought I'd share:

"It was with dismay that I rounded the corner to home last week and found our small cul-de-sac plumb full of cars all around Bud's home. His Oklahoma son's license tags stood out in the group. I simply stopped and bowed my head. I knew he had been ill."

"At the family visitation on Aug 18 at Stony Point Christian Church, the distinctive Golden features were visible all over the sanctuary. but and his wife Becky, married 63 years, had six children, 17 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren."

"I know Bud was proud of him and of all of his kids."

" "He was my prince," I told my old buddy Gary (my uncle). "He was always there and always helpful." "He was a prince to you, but he was a King to us," Gary said without missing a beat. And I looked around at the assembled family and remembered a remark that i had heard in the crowd earlier. That family was hurting, but they are Goldens. They put their game faces on and prepare to meet the world."

Pretty neat, huh? Man, it sure touched my heart. Ok, I even shed a few tears-big surprise there, I know?! I've said it once and I'll say it again-my Gpa was a rock star. He was a one of a kind man who touched literally, everyone he came in contact with.

The visitation was two weeks ago tonight and my gosh, I miss that man more than words can say. I wish I had one more chance to talk to him and hear him say "Grandpa loves you."

BUT. we all know I can't, so I guess as the author of the article said.......I'm a Golden and that means I put my game face on and prepare to meet the world."

(If only it were that easy though!?)
