Today is my birthday. The older I get, it seems the less meaningful birthdays are. It makes me kind of sad, to be honest. Growing up at my house, birthdays were a huge thing. You were called "The Birthday Girl (or boy)" all day and you got to pick what you wanted for dinner that night. It was a special day for sure.
I was kind of dreading today. Since Steve hasn't felt good, I thought he'd be grouchy (which is totally understandable!) and Tanner was at her Dad's, so I wouldn't see her either. I thought it'd be like any other day and I was ok with that. I'll be in New York two weeks from now-that' birthday enough for me!
Well let me just say....today was FABULOUS.
The day started out with a phone call at 7:00(a.m). I answered the phone and it was my Mom and Dad, on the speaker phone, singing "Happy Birthday." It was a hoot! Dad even added an "and many more..." on at the end. It was great-my parents rock!
As usual, I went to Starbucks for my Chai tea and pumpkin loaf before work. (YUM-O!) When I got to work there was a bag sitting in my chair. My partner got me the sweetest card thanking me for all my hard work and a beautiful candle holder and candle. I was so touched that he'd remembered. (And found out later that he called Steve last night to make sure today was the day!)
We had Patrolmen interviews all day today. Interviews are my favorite. It's so cool to see all the hard work we put into a background, come together and pay off. I love it. So I spent all day together in a room with seven other men. Sometimes there was a little to much testosterone flowing through the room, but I managed. :) There were several times that I laughed so hard I thought I might pee my pants right there. Although I don't always like my job, I LOVE and count it both a blessing and a privilege to work with the majority of our guys.
On interview days, we (the panel) all go out to lunch together. Today I got to pick since it was my birthday and the guys paid for mine. Can't beat a free lunch at Guido's!!
Steve beat me home from work. Since Monday is a holiday, they closed at 3:00. Lucky dogs! When I got home though, I had a box and the sweetest card ever on the table. My fabulous hubby got me another Willow Tree figurine to add to my collection. This one is called "Angel of the Heart." The angel is holding a red heart and Steve said that represents me holding his heart. Aww....made me get all teary eyed. He's always been a sentimental type of guy. :)
We made me some strawberry margaritas and had those along with at Totino's cheese pizza for dinner. Man, the pizza brought back memories of being at Grandma's house and eating Totino's cheese pizza with her. Good times indeed. After dinner I took my bath and we came into bed. It was 8:00 or so. I know it's easier on Steve's back to lay, so I bring the computer in here, he watches tv and I play. We're in the same room and that's all that matters to me.
I think something else that has made this day special is all the birthday wishes that I've received today. I've got a Facebook and Myspace page and have received so many well wishes from friends on there (they both have birthday alerts). It's so fun to hear from old college or high school friends and it's so nice that they stop by and leave me a message.
So that was my birthday. Tomorrow after T's dance recital, Steve and I (T is at Mike's for the weekend)are going to grab a late lunch/early dinner. I'm still trying to figure out where to go-I can't decide. It doesn't really matter to me though as long as I'm celebrating with my hubby at my side (or across the table!).
Now that the day is over I feel so blessed. It's been a great day. I've got a wonderful husband and a fabulous daughter. I have great friends and family. What more could a girl ask for?
