Catching Up

It's 3:11 in the morning and I can't sleep. I was sleeping really light anyway, but what really woke me up and startled me was Steve slapping my arm, asking if I was alright. That was about 2:30. I couldn't go back to sleep after that. I figured no time like the present to update the blog. So here I sit...............

Things are getting better each dayat our house. The weekend, in fact, seemed like a "normal" weekend and let me just say-praise God!

I took Friday off because the SIL (Sisters in law) were supposed to come over and we were supposed to start looking through paperwork, valuables, figuring money issues out...you know, that fun stuff (ha!). Well, come to find out, Mechelle was throwing up so we very kindly asked them to stay away until she was better. Between Thursday night and Friday morning, I managed to get 13 hours of sleep, which was great. I got up at 9:00, did my thing around the house and was back asleep on the couch for another two hours at 11:00. I think my body had some catching up to do!

Steve was pretty grouchy Friday and to be honest, it drove me nuts. I think a lot of it was the fact that he'd been in the house for three days straight and had done basically nothing else besides going through pictures and stuff of Dad's. I know that stuff needs to be done (my word, you can't walk through my living room or garage without walking around boxes) but at the same time, I think you have to take a break from it all as well. When I very nicely suggested a break, Steve of course said no.

I went and got groceries Friday afternoon. Steve and I had been texting back and forth while I was gone. After suggesting that he take a break from everything and him saying no, I was really annoyed, thinking it was going to be a long weekend. Well, it wasn't ten minutes after that text conversation that he sent me another text asking if I wanted to go on a date Saturday night. Of course I said YES!

When I got home we were talking and I mentioned that I was going to go out to Lincoln Saturday and pick up some apples. It was their annual Applefest and it's a great little town. Next thing I know, Steve said he had texted the SIL and told them we were not available to go through stuff on Saturday, that we were going to go out to Lincoln and then we had a dinner date. I was so excited that he changed his mind about getting out of the house!

Saturday we slept in again and then got around and went out to Lincoln for some apples and some fresh apple cider. After that, we went up to Rogers and hung out for awhile at Border's Bookstore. We walked around the outside mall there and just enjoyed the nice weather. We went into the Williams and Sonoma store and had fun trying a few samples of food and just looking at all the cool kitchen gadgets. We ended our date with an early dinner at Abuelo's.

It was such a nice, relaxing day. We both enjoyed it tremendously and it was a MUCH needed break. And the cool part-we didn't talk about his Dad or anything having to do with his Dad, the entire time. I don't mean that mean, but it was nice to talk about other things and focus on the positive stuff going on in our lives.

Sunday was church and then once again the SIL were supposed to come over. Unfortunately though, whatever Mechelle had Friday-Melissa had Sunday. Steve again nicely told them not to come over and we rescheduled for Wednesday night. I spent all of Sunday afternoon making homemade applesauce to freeze and homemade apple dumplings. I even made homemade crust for the dumplings!! It was a rainy, dreary, cold afternoon so I fixed a big pot of chili for dinner and boy was it good!

Steve went back to work yesterday (Monday), which was a good thing. It's another piece of "normal" that's slowly returning. He was ready and looking forward to going back, so that was good and made things a little easier. He had a really good day and came home in a great mood.

An Officer with Rogers PD was involved in a shooting Thursday night where a man was killed after firing shots at the Officer from a very close range. Since Steve hadn't been at work, we didn't immediately know the Officer's name. They released the name of the Officer on Saturday and come to find out it was one of the guys that worked with Steve and had just gone back to the streets. Our hearts just sank when we heard Jesse was the one involved. Well, yesterday when Steve went back to work, Jesse had come by the office and they were able to talk to him and make sure he was ok with everything that happened. Since Steve himself has been involved in a shooting, he totally understood the emotions, adrenaline, etc. that Jesse was feeling. I think it was good for both of them to talk and I know that it was a relief to Steve to see Jesse and be able to see for himself that he was doing ok.

Tanner came home yesterday too, after being gone all weekend at her Dad's. It was the first time since Dad's funeral that she'd been away from us and though it was nice to have a weekend to ourselves, it still stunk without her being here. She was really clingy last night, which was kind of unusual. Nonetheless, we're glad she's home again.

Yesterday afternoon I started having severe pain in my left ovary. It's the only one I've got left and I'm not sure what the deal is. The pain was enough that at times, I was doubled over until it would pass. It felt as if someone had stuck a knife in me and was twisting it around and around. I hadn't had pain like that since before my hysterectomy six years ago! It was awful. Steve picked up Tanner for me so that I could just come straight home after work. I called home when I left work to let them know I was on my way. By time I got home, Steve had a hot bath waiting, along with some Tramadol and the heating pad. What a sweetie!! I soaked in the bath for awhile and then laid with the heating pad all night in bed while watching tv and playing on the computer. After Tanner got her chores done and ate dinner (Steve fixed her an omelet-I'm telling you she is so spoiled!), she put on her jammies and climbed in bed beside me and we watched tv together.

Ok, I think I've finally got caught up on things.

Oh wait!!

My Daddy finally got a job!!! He started working at some sort of Veterinary Supply warehouse (I think?) last Wednesday. It's not the greatest job in the world, but hey, it's a job, so he's not going to complain. The biggest downfall is that he works from like 1:30-9:30 or something like that. So he's gone at night when Mom's home, but that's just one of those things you have to work around. I think it's been a huge adjustment for him for many different reasons, but like I said earlier, it's a job, so that's all that really matters. Once again, praise God for answered prayers!

It's now 3:52 and my eyes are heavy. I just finished an apple so my belly is full too. I think I'll set my alarm on my phone and close my eyes for an hour or so before I need to get up and start getting around. Tanner has an 8:00 Choir concert tonight, so it's going to be a long day. I better catch another couple of hours while I can.

P.S. Please say a prayer for my cousin Robyn and her family. On Wednesday, Robyn's daughter, Allysa (who is 8 I believe) will be undergoing brain surgery at Oklahoma City Children's hospital. I don't understand it all, but she's got a problem that's hereditary and that needs fixing now. She will be in the hospital for 5-6 days, out of school for 4 weeks and won't be able to be involved in any sort of activity for at least 8 weeks. Please just pray that the surgery and recovery both go well and for safe travel to and from Oklahoma City. Thanks!
