Our weekend getaway

I've been meaning to blog for the past couple of days and just haven't had (or made) the time. It's been a busy week and I'm exhausted, so once I get home, I'm ready to relax and climb in bed just as soon as I get Tanner to bed.

Steve and I's little getaway to Branson on Sunday was FABULOUS to say the least. Oh.My.Word. If you are ever in the Branson area, you totally need to stay with at my "Aunt" and "Uncle's" (they are really my Godparents, but we refer to them as "Aunt" and "Uncle") Bed and Breakfast. I'm telling you, it was so peaceful, quiet, quaint and just plain beautiful! Please don't take this wrong, but there were no kiddos, no phones (although both of our cells rang once or twice) and nothing really to worry about except getting up for breakfast the next day.

And speaking of breakfast. Let me just say, my Aunt is a ROCKSTAR in the kitchen. I have always wanted to be like my Aunt Dee when it comes to cooking/baking. She can make anything in the world and it all tastes fabulous. Monday morning we had an egg casserole, fruit salad and coffee cake for breakfast. On Tuesday we had pancakes, fruit salad and bacon. And let me just say that they were the best darn pancakes ever too! Every evening too, my Aunt puts out a plate of homemade cookies for the guests. The refrigerator is stocked as well with all kinds of drinks and you just help yourself to snacks throughout the day and evening.

Sunday when we got in town we went down to Branson Landing and ate on the river. It was ok, but the service left something to be desired. Honestly though, it didn't really matter to me because all the mattered was that I was sitting there with my sweet hubby, relaxing and enjoying some peace and quiet together.

After eating we drove out to my Aunt and Uncle's place and checked in. It was so good to see Uncle Mike and Aunt Dee. Uncle Mike is retired military, so growing up, they lived all over the world. My parents and Uncle Mike and Aunt Dee grew up together and have been best friends for years. My oldest brother is named after Uncle Mike, their oldest boy is a year younger and named after my Dad. I'm next in line, a year younger than Ken, and then their youngest, is a year behind me. (We joke that we're glad that we're not named after our Mom's or I'd be Dee and she'd be Patti!) Krista, my God sister, and I are best of friends and have been all our lives. Even though we didn't grow up together, when we are together you'd never know any different. We've always picked up where we left off before. Her friendship is such a blessing to me. Anyway, seeing Uncle Mike and Aunt Dee over the weekend was great. It was like seeing my own parents.

Each room at the Bed and Breakfast is decorated in different themes of places where they've lived over the years. Our room was the Mediterranean Room. From the moment we walked in the door, it was instantly calm, relaxing and serene. The room is two stories. Upstairs was an electric fireplace, a private deck, and a jacuzzi tub for two. It was awesome, awesome, awesome!!

Monday we went to the Veteran's Museum and to the Wax Museum. Both were good, although believe it or not, I liked the Veteran's Museum the best. The Wax Museum was ok, but some of the figures didn't look right. We ate a late lunch/early dinner then headed back to the Bed and Breakfast and relaxed the rest of the evening.

Tuesday we checked out and went shopping. Let me tell you, my hubby is the man-when he's in the mood to shop-watch out! He is so funny because he's such a good help when it comes to buying clothes. I tease him that he's such a girl because he has such good taste! We had a good time and none of the shops were busy or crowded so that made it even better.

After another late lunch/early dinner, we hit the road and headed back home. I had a 5:00 Parent Teacher Conference and I pulled up to the school right at 4:59. Talk about cutting it close! The conference went great and Tanner is doing awesome in school so far. She and I went to an honor choir meeting after that and then went home.

I can't say enough how nice and refreshing it was to get away. Though I wasn't really ready to come back, I can say that I came back refreshed and renewed in some areas. I felt like I could once again take on the world for just a little bit longer.

This post is way longer than I meant it to be. Sorry! Thanks for sticking with me! I think I'll post some pictures from our trip now.

Man, we all need to do that much more often than we do don't we? The last time Derek and I went away, a year ago, just for one night was so perfect. We had a great place to stay, a short drive, a great bed, great cable, an okay jacuzzi tub. AND we had lots of wild life entertaining us by our incredible tree house. It was wonderful to be completely lazy, lay in bed naked, and have some jacuzzi fun. I really needed our last visit to Eureka Springs, more than I knew. Derek did too.

I'm so glad you had such a great get-away. Your room/bed looked so pretty.
